Last week, the #2 CIF-SS Div 2 ranked Mustangs varsity baseball team traveled to Central California where they participated in the San Luis Obispo Baseball Tournament. At the end of the 3-day event, the Mustangs were crowned tournament champions with a perfect record of 4-0.
Game 1 (April 20) – Trabuco Hills 14 Agoura 4
The Mustangs began tournament play by crushing the Agoura Chargers 14-4. Collectively the Mustangs had 10 hits and a team batting average of .357. Clean-up hitter Kevin Wade drove in 5 runs while going 3-4 on the day. Garrett Kraemer and Brandon Rex shared successful pitching duties for the victorious Mustangs.
Game 2 (April 20) – Trabuco Hills 2 Foothill (Palo Cedro) 1
The Mustangs scored runs in each of the first two innings to go up quickly on the Foothill Cougars 2-0. Most of the game was a pitcher’s duel, with Foothill managing only one run in the bottom of the 7th inning, ultimately falling short as the Mustangs claimed a 2-1 victory. Kevin Wade pitched an outstanding 6.2 innings, collecting 4 strike outs in the process. Wade also contributed on offense as he and teammate Brandon Pace drove in one run each.
Game 3 (April 21) – Trabuco Hills 4 Amador Valley 3
The Mustangs were victorious in another one-run nail bitter, beating the Amador Valley Dons 4-3. All four of the Mustang runs were scored in the 2nd inning, while holding off a hard charging Amador Valley team. Jake Chutney was stellar as he threw an 83-pitch complete game victory recording 7 strike outs, no walks, 2 earned runs and a 1.14 WHIP. Chutney also went 2-3 at the plate with one RBI, while leadoff hitter Adam Vargas contributed with two RBIs.
Game 4 (April 22) – Trabuco Hills 8 Moorpark 3
The Mustangs offense and defense were firing on all cylinders in the Championship game as they claimed the tournament crown 8-3 over the Moorpark Musketeers. With 11 total hits, the Mustangs batted .393 in their final game of the tournament. Kevin Wade, Matt Harris and Garrett Kraemer each smacked two hits, while Josh Fuentes collected a team-high 3 RBI’s. Pitchers Brett Dare, Kraemer and Michael Mobley held the Moorpark batter to only three hits and an opposing team batting average of .115.
