After three and a half innings, the Mustangs trailed the Redlands Terriers by a score of 1-0. The score quickly evened up as Kevin Wade led off the bottom of the 4th inning with a towering home run deep over the left field fence. The Mustangs continued their 4th inning fireworks by sending 11 total batters to the plate resulting in 6 runs, taking the lead back from the Terriers 6-1 after four innings. In the 5th inning, Trabuco sent another 8 batters to the plate, scoring 4 runs while enjoying a 10-1 lead after five innings. The Mustangs held on two more innings to secure their third victory in the CIF Championships by a score of 10-2.
Adam Vargas, Sean McCarrell, Cole Stanton and Steve Garland each had multiple hits for the Mustangs. As a team, the Mustangs collected 11 hits with a team batting average of .407.
Not to be outshined by the offense, Buddy Brouwer pitched five and two-thirds innings, giving up only one earned run and three hits. Kevin Wolf pitched the remaining one and a third innings collecting three strike outs and not allowing a single hit.
Quarterfinals vs. Glendora – May 25, 3:15pm – at THHS
The CIF Championships continue with the Quarterfinals Round on Friday, May 25. The Mustangs once again called the outcome of the coin flip correctly and will host the Glendora Tartans at 3:15pm.
