Mustangs Earn A Thrilling Extra Innings Win Over Glendora In CIF Championships Quarterfinals

After 7 innings of regular play, the Mustangs and Glendora Tartans could not decide the outcome of the game and headed into extra innings tied 2-2. Pitcher Kenny Wolf made quick work of Glendora in the top of the 8th inning, striking out two batters while allowing no runs. In the bottom of the 8th, Trevor Petersen led off with a single to left field. Brett DaRe’ followed with a walk and Ben DePerry moved the runners over to second and third with a sacrifice bunt. Glendora elected to intentionally walk Adam Vargas which brought Sean McCarrell to the plate with bases loaded and only one out … winning run 90 feet away. The second pitch of McCarrell’s at bat got away from Glendora’s catcher and Peterson quickly broke for home, slid across safely …

and an extra innings pile up celebration immediately ensued as the Mustangs claimed victory 3-2.

Kevin Wade pitched a spectacular 7 innings … striking out 7 batters while allowing only 2 runs. Steven Garland led the Mustangs offensively going a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with one double.
